SPRINGFIELD Mass. (WWLP) – Commuters traveling on Boston Road and Belmont Ave in Springfield should head out a little earlier this morning. On Belmont Avenue, construction crews will start replacing water pipes at 7:00 this morning and on Boston Road,
Springfield Water and Sewer Commission told 22News the sewer and pipe replacement is a part of the city’s larger construction project. The construction on Belmont Ave. will effect Locust Street to Woodside Terrace. The commission said this project is necessary for public health. The pipes being replaced are responsible for sending water to homes and businesses in the area.
Crews are working today through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Drivers should expect detours all week, and signs will be pointing cars in the right direction. Traffic will be able to drive through Belmont Ave, but parking won’t be available.
Crews will repave Boston Road Wednesday and Thursday of this week, today and tomorrow they’ll be prepping for that project. That construction will stretch from Eastfield Mall’s easterly access driveway to Wilbraham’s town line. Drivers could get caught in more traffic than usual if commuting through that area.
