Added hotel expenses frustrating customers

Things like guaranteeing certain number of beds, early-check in or late check out are coming with charges

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s getting more expensive to travel, and this time we’re not talking about air fares. Vacationers are now finding their hotel rooms are more expensive then they used to be.

Things like guaranteeing a certain number of beds, early-check in or late check out are coming with charges; even the safe you may not use has a price tag.

Experts determined hotels will take in a record $2.25 billion for such add-ons and some travelers have noticed.

“It’s frustrating because you have to read the fine print to know what you’re kind of getting with hotels and airlines now, and you know with hotels it always seems there’s something else they’re looking to add,” said Peter Agey of Suffield, Conn.

Some hotels are charging a “personal use fee” for those who put their own drinks in the mini bar. Bottom line: ask questions before you book.
