TRUMBULL, Conn. (AP) — Trumbull’s first selectman says more than two dozen elected and appointed Republicans or their spouses failed to vote in a local race and demanded they resign.

The Connecticut Post reports that First Selectman Tim Herbst said in an email that more than 30 unidentified officials or their spouses did not vote in the July 22 special Board of Finance election.

He called the results of his voting analysis “sickening.” He says it was a miracle Republicans lost by only 95 votes.

Herbst says members of the Republican Town Committee failed to do their jobs by not voting and told them to resign immediately. He said he will not reappoint members and commissioners to town boards.

He later apologized for the tone of his email but said he stands by his message.
