Rowe celebrates rebuilt elementary school

The school was built with a $6.8 million dollar insurance settlement

ROWE, Mass. (WWLP) – It was two years ago this month when a bolt of lightning caused the fire that destroyed the 50-year-old elementary school in the Franklin County town of Rowe.

Late Sunday afternoon, families gathered to celebrate the opening of their new school this Wednesday.

The August 9th, 2012 blaze broke the hearts of the town of fewer than four hundred people, but they carried forward their determination to build a new school for the children of Rowe.

They built their new school with the 6 point eight million dollar insurance settlement. A gift from a Western Massachusetts philanthropist took care of the cost the school’s equipment.
