Dakin fundraiser feeds animals and people

The fundraiser included a meal for owners and pets

WHATELY, Mass. (WWLP) – Pet lovers treated their dogs to dinner Sunday to benefit the Dakin Humane Society in Springfield and Leverett.

A farm in the Franklin county town of Whately suited animal lovers and their pets this afternoon. Their after dinner stroll seemed every bit as satisfying as the fifty dollar per person meal, plus the ten dollar fee to give their pets a good feed.

Those who came for the fundraiser were as attached to Dakin as they are to their pets.

Debbie Chiprari of Sturbridge told 22News, “I have a rescue dog and my friend Alice has a rescue dog and we’re here to support Dakin and what everything is all about.”

Some of these Dakin supporters had acquired their pets from either humane society in Hampden and Franklin counties. The pooches didn’t mind their masters bringing canned cat food to the fundraiser to support Dakin’s pet food aid programs.
