CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Western Massachusetts graduation Saturday for students whose diploma’s have turned their lives around.
They’re members of the 50th annual Westover Job Corps graduating class. It was fifty years ago that the U.S. labor department established a Job Corps center near the gate to the air reserve base.
Students who had found life a struggle and needed to learn a meaningful skill found at the Job Corps center what they were looking for.
Joseph Clark, a graduate, told 22News, “I feel real dedicated because I finished the whole program. Before I went to the Job Corps, I didn’t have anything, and I have everything now.”
Since the Job Corps program began here in western Massachusetts half a century ago, thousands of young people have been put themselves on the path to productive lives.
