HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Holyoke neighborhood that’s had its share of crime and violence became a center of reconciliation today.
Bethlehem Baptist Community Church organized a community picnic this weekend at lower Chestnut Park in the heart of Holyoke’s inner city.
Pastor Paula Alexander told 22News, people who know each other are less likely to be hostile towards each other. She said, “We’re in the middle of the community. We recognize that we don’t know all of our neighbors. So what we’re trying to do is have the opportunity to know our neighbors.”
The community picnic, with its camaraderie, its food, and family activities, will continue at Holyoke’s lower Chestnut Park all day Sunday following their morning worship service.
