Study: UMass Amherst considered “LGBT Friendly”

Only two other Mass. schools mad the list

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The University of Massachusetts Amherst is making headlines, and for a good reason. A new study ranks the university among the Top 50 “LGBT Friendly” schools in the country.

Research conducted by the Campus Pride Index, shows UMass is working to improve safety and academic life for LGBT students. The study looks at policy, programs, and practices, and is conducted by LGBT experts in the field of higher education.

Carol Dalessio of Three Rivers told 22News, “Hopefully when I go to college, I want people to be less judgmental and be able to be open to other people and treat everyone the same.”

“We raise our children to accept everybody and it should be no different than when you’re an adult,” said Kerri Wilbois of Cummins Northeast.

Harvard University and Amherst College were the only other Massachusetts schools that made the list.
