NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – On Friday, some local seniors got the chance to learn about managing their financial future online. A representative from the local Social Security Office gave a presentation to people gathered at the Northampton Senior Center. The goal was to get seniors comfortable with accessing their Social Security account online, including printing out their statements and making changes to their direct deposits.
Social Security representatives told 22News that seniors are often nervous about putting their personal information, such as their Social Security Number, into the system.
Friday, seniors got a step-by-step demonstration on how to create their own accounts. Seniors told 22News they’re grateful for the help.
“I get easily frustrated; ready to throw it through a window. So I came down here to get somebody to help me and get some guidance. They’ve absolutely relieved some of my fears, yes,” Gloria Nichols of Ashfield said.
The Social Security office has been holding these seminars at senior centers across western Mass. If you would like to set up your own account online, visit the Social Security Administration’s website at ssa.gov.
