SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police say an argument during a basketball game ended with gunfire and two men being treated at the hospital for gunshot wounds Thursday night.

Springfield Police Captain Trent Duda told 22News that someone in a car fired the shots that wounded a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old man at Johnny Appleseed Park at 5:15 p.m. Thursday. Both men are Springfield residents.

“One victim was shot in the arm. The other was shot in the butt,” said Captain Duda. The shooter drove away and has not been found. Both victims are expected to survive.

When asked if there were witnesses, Captain Duda replied, “The place was packed. Witnesses? No.”
