LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – An accident involving four vehicles closed a major intersection in Longmeadow and sent two people to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
According to Longmeadow Police Capt. John Stankiewicz, around 12:50 p.m., police arrived at the intersection of Bliss Road and Laurel Street after getting a report of a multi-car accident. Three of the vehicles had heavy damage, while the fourth vehicle sustained minor damage.
Capt. Stankiewicz said two of the drivers were rushed to Baystate Medical Center. He says that one of the driver appeared to have serious injuries, while the other person was less seriously hurt. The drivers of the other two cars and three passengers were checked-out by EMS workers, and refused to go to the hospital.
Stankiewicz said their initial investigation determined that one of the vehicles ran a red light. The Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was called in as they continue to look into just what happened.
The intersection was cleared and opened at 3:20PM.
