CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) — The Better Business Bureau of Central New England has received nearly one thousand complaints against auto repair shops in the past year. 22News is working for you with what you need to know before you drop your car off.
The BBB says it’s a good idea that you do your homework ahead of time before you take your car here to your local mechanic.
They advise you to first get familiar with your particular car model and it’s suggested service schedule. It’s also good idea to choose a repair shop before you need one, and start with something small, like an oil change.
Always request a written estimate of all your expenses ahead of time. And make sure to read and understand the shop’s policy’s before leaving your vehicle behind.
22News spoke to the Manager at Mal Brother’s Auto body in Chicopee says reputable business get a lot of referrals, so ask around to see who your friends and family trusts.
“Explaining things to you, even though you might not understand totally, but at least you’ll know what was done, why it was done, and if they foresee anything else. It’s always better to talk to the person who did it,” Ed Malikowski, from Mal Brother’s Autobody, in Chicopee.
He and the better business bureau both also say you should always be getting an itemized estimate before any work is done, and that if something different from the estimate pops up you have to give the authorization before they do the work.
