PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. (AP) — A man from Denmark and woman from Massachusetts have won the Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb.
John Kronborg Ebson, a professional racer from Denmark, won the 7.6-mile race on Saturday in a time of 52 minutes, 53 seconds. Organizers say Ebson stayed just behind Cameron Cogburn of Arlington, Massachusetts, for most of the first five miles and then pulled away to beat Cogburn by 57 seconds.
The 51-year-old Marti Shea won in an hour and six minutes and one second, almost eight minutes ahead of her nearest racer.
A total of 635 cyclists competed on Saturday.
They started the course at the foot of the Auto Road, and finished at the 6,288-foot summit of the highest peak in the northeastern United States.
