(WPRI) – Included in this week’s recalls were thousands of big screen televisions that were recalled due to a risk of tip-overs.
Vizio is recalling more than 200,000 thousand of its televisions after numerous reports of the sets tipping over. The company is recalling 245,000 39- and 42-inch flat-panel televisions. The stand assembly can fail and cause the TVs to tip over unexpectedly, posing a risk of injury to the consumer.
Vizio said it received 51 reports of the recalled televisions tipping over. No injuries have been reported.
Concumers are asked to detach the stand immediately, place the TV in a safe location and contact Vizio for a replacement stand.
Between 2008-2010, there were 43,400 reported injuries from furniture tip-overs. Between 2000-2010, 293 people died from furniture tip-overs – the majority of whom were children.
