SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 98 percent of Massachusetts school children will have had all their shots when they return to class in a few weeks.
Deputy Springfield public health director Bettye Frederic told 22News, the 98 percent immunization level for Springfield and the state is among the highest anywhere.
Frederic said that from a public health standpoint it’s vital that as many children as possible get their measles, mumps, rubella and other vaccines. “If everybody in the environment is immunized, even If somebody gets an Infectious disease, the child spreading it through the entire environment is slight.”
Baystate Medical Center’s Dr. Michael Klatte said there’s strong evidence that there’s no link between vaccines and the rising number of kids with Autism, and that vaccine side effects are very rare.
