Work Readiness program helps teens gain experience

More than 180 teens went through the program

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The job market is extremely competitive, and with more and more adults struggling, it can make it harder for youth to find a job.

That’s why on Thursday night more teenagers from all across western Massachusetts were honored. More than 180 teens went through a “Work Readiness Certificate Program” through CareerPoint, and all landed jobs this summer.

Program Coordinator Michelle Falcon, who started with the program years ago, says it’s a huge help. “I started as one of the youth, and now I’m one of the co-coordinators. This program helps them think outside of the box and helps them think there are opportunities out there for me.”

Many of those who participated in the youth initiative were hired full time after completing their summer jobs. Some of the employers who participated this year were Berkshire Bank and Holyoke Medical Center.
