Residents are nervous to drive on I-91 North

The roads also may have been more slippery than usual from heavy rain.

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – A massive crash on I-91 North Wednesday tied up traffic for hours. Traffic jams extended well into Enfield, Connecticut, after a tractor trailer slammed into a guardrail at the Longmeadow curve.

And this isn’t the first driver to lose control by Exit 3 on Interstate 91 North. Eli Cook of West Springfield described what he thinks is the root cause of these accidents.

Cook told 22News, “I think it’s a combination of a lot of things. I think the speed limit change going down so drastically, so fast, the change from three lanes to two lanes, and I think just the way people drive in general nowadays.”

The roads also may have been more slippery than usual from heavy rain.

The accident was cleared by mid-afternoon. Earlier that same day, two other vehicles crashed on I-91 South.

22News called the State Police earlier today for a comment on the highway’s safety and is waiting for a call back.
