CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Most people don’t expect a visit to the RMV to be quick. “This is my first time in a while. I’ve actually been putting it off because I don’t want to sit here and wait and you have to make sure you have enough time,” said Granby’s Ashley Barnish.
However, the 22News I-Team discovered changes are being made to speed up your wait time. The state put a security guard at the branch in Chicopee who also helps customers when they walk in door.
“He’s very efficient, he knows exactly how to handle these people, he comes in, gets them going. Get them a ticket, you know he really helps out a lot,” said Holyoke’s David Wisner.
RMV spokeswoman Sara Lavoie told 22News the guard has helped reduce confusion. State RMV leaders say they are always looking for new ways to improve their wait times at their branches but the best way still for you to plan out your day more efficiently is to check their estimated wait times online.
RMV visitors say there are still long lines but they are noticing changes as they happen. “Especially in Springfield they have the different lines for different reasons why you’re there and I think that speeds the process as well. So, I do see there are changes, there’s always room for improvement but they are making changes,” said Westfield’s Deborah Gibbons.
An RMV Spokeswoman said there will be security guards posted at additional branches over the next few months.
