SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The heavy rain across western Massachusetts caused widespread flash flooding on streets. 22News went to Springfield and West Springfield where the flooding was too much for drivers to handle.
There was some street flooding on East Columbus Avenue in Springfield. Cars were swerving around and trying to get through the flooded underpass. 22News saw one car actually get stuck halfway through.
In West Springfield, where we saw four cars get stuck underneath the railroad trestle, police and MassDOT workers were helping these cars get out. This also caused a big backup for cars driving on Route 5 southbound.
