Complaints lead to three drug arrest in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police arrested two drug dealers and a buyer after receiving reports and complaints from residents on Chestnut Street.

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, the Springfield Narcotics Division and Street Crime Unit set up surveillance on 10 Chestnut Street after getting reports of drug activity in the area.

Police witnessed two suspects, a man and a woman, dealing drugs to customers. Sgt. Delaney said officers moved in on the two dealers and a customer who had just purchase drugs. After a brief foot chase, the suspects were arrested.

Bags of Heroin packaged for sale, bags of Crack Cocaine, and $348 in cash were seized by police.

The dealers, 22-year-old Geovanie Guzman and 36-year-old Jessica Cruz, were both charged with Distribution of Heroin, Distribution of Crack Cocaine, and Violation of a Drug Free Park Zone (Merrick Park). The buyer, 38-year-old Jerry Rivera, was charged with Possession Of Cocaine and Possession Of Heroin.

All three were arraigned in Springfield District Court Wednesday. Narcotics Detectives will be closely monitoring the area of Chestnut Street and the park located at Spring and Pearl Street to stop any type of drug sales from taking place downtown.
