SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) –  Robin Williams’ death is drawing attention to mental health issues.

Four signs at the end of the North End Bridge in Springfield and West Springfield were just put up in the last week or so with a number for a suicide prevention hotline.

Another group that is raising awareness is the Western Massachusetts chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  There are close to 40,000 people who take their own lives every year, in America.

“It really is something that is much more prevalent than what we think,” said Cheryl Ronzoni, western Massachusetts Associate Area Director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

If you or someone you know is battling mental health issues and needs help, there are many resources on their website, afsp.org
