CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Sarah Jane Park in Chicopee was packed Monday night with hundreds of residents supporting a Night Out against crime.
It’s an annual event that’s part of the National Night Out program. The Night Out campaign aims to bring police and community members together.
22News spoke with Jean Fitzgerald, who brought the program to Chicopee 20 years ago. She says it’s amazing to see how far it’s come. She told 22News, “It took a long time to be able to get it to where it is today, where people come to the park and they have fun.”
Jean Fitzgerald started the Chicopee Night Out in 1994. And tonight, the Chicopee police department honored her for her service to the community with a special plaque.
