Decision expected this week on the nitrogen levels of the Connecticut River

The samples are expected to reveal the amount of nitrogen in the river

NORTHFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – We hope to tell early in the coming week whether the Connecticut River in Western Massachusetts is polluting the river downstream at long Island sound.

22News was there taking exclusive video at the Route 10 bridge in the Franklin County town of Northfield. Experts from the Connecticut River watershed council took water samples from the river.

The samples are expected to reveal the amount of nitrogen in the river, whether it’s enough to choke off the oxygen supporting fish at long island sound.

This was the first time the watershed council had ever taken water samples from the Connecticut River here in western Massachusetts. They named the testing project Samplepalooza.
