AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Farmers from all over the world are in western Massachusetts this weekend for the 40th-annual Northeast Organic Farming Conference.

It’s not just for farmers either; people from all walks of life interested in organic farming came to the University of Massachusetts campus in Amherst.

22News spoke with a woman from Israel who started growing wheat to develop the crop in the Middle East.

Ellie Rotlasa said, “In Israel, I could not find locally grown wheat and I had to go to the gene bank in Israel and I said, where’s the wheat?”

She became interested in growing wheat when found out that more than 90 percent of wheat eaten in Israel is grown here in the United States.
