Fire on Ashley Street in Springfield

The two occupants were left homeless

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)- Two people were burned out of their apartment in Springfield tonight after a fire started in their bathroom.

The Aide to Springfield Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News, the fire started just before 7 o’clock at 119 Ashley Street, which is a small apartment complex.

Leger says the occupants left an electric curling iron on in the bathroom. The hot curling iron started the fire, which gutted the entire second floor bathroom. It also left extensive smoke damage to the rest of their apartment.

The two occupants were left homeless. The owner of the apartment complex is helping them find another place to stay. There were no injuries.
