AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News has news on a 4-alarm fire in Amherst. 22News just got off the phone with a dispatcher at the Amherst Fire Department. He says there’s a fire in South Amherst on East Hadley Road.

The fire started at South Point Apartments.

22News was there and spoke to residents who live in, and nearby the complex.

Cheyenne Lewis of Amherst said, “I live in this building here right next to it. All we see is all this smoke coming out. We start running over there to find out what happened, and we really couldn’t see nothing from the front so we went around the back. We see the whole outside of the building is starting to catch fire.”

“There was big humungous flames on the top of the roof,” said Colleen Jardine of Amherst. “I was thinking, where are we going to live next?”

The Amherst Fire Department is still at the complex conducting an investigation. Stay with 22News on air and online to bring you more information as soon as it becomes available.
