CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee adopted a digital age fundraising approach called “Crowdfunding” to help finance a new park playground on Friday. “Crowdfunding” entails making a donation on your computer.
Mayor Richard Kos donated the first fifty dollars toward the five thousand dollar “Crowdfunding” commitment for a new playground at Nash park in the Willimansett neighborhood.
Chicopee’s 28-year-old community development planner Lee Pouliot told 22News the city wants to appeal to a new generation of donors. “It rings true with younger generations, who are not the people who come out and participate in a traditional way. We’re much more fast-paced, I’m a member of this generation.”
The website for donating to the playground construction fund is Citizenvestor.com.
Mayor Kos hopes to break ground at the end of the month and have the park project completed by November.
