Shoplifter arrested and found with heroin

DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Deerfield police arrested 32 year-old Jacob Jarvenpaa on Monday, August 5th at 4:30 p.m. for shoplifting, where they found he also had heroin in his possession.

A witness in the parking lot of Big Y told Deerfield Officer Buchanan that a man and a woman were fighting near the store’s entrance. When Buchanan got to the entrance, he found that the Big Y Loss Prevention officer was holding down Jarvenpaa. The officer said that she saw Jarvenpaa shoplift several DVD’s from the store. The loss prevention officer suffered a minor injury in the altercation. The total value of the DVD’s were just under $100.

Jarvenpaa was arrested for shoplifting and was taken to the station, where Officer Kratz found a small pill bottle containing ten bags of suspected heroin.

Jarvenpaa is being charged with shoplifting, 2nd offense, and possession of a class A (heroin) drug. His bail was set at $500, and he has been released on bail.
