WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A man from the Dominican Republic has been sentenced to prison time already served in connection with a Massachusetts driver license scam and will be deported.
Authorities say 42-year-old Leonardo Burgos Espinal orchestrated a fraudulent license ring by bribing a clerk at the Registry of Motor Vehicles office in Leominster to issue more than a dozen driver’s licenses based on fraudulently obtained Puerto Rican identity papers.
The Telegram & Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1ojbj3D ) that Espinal was sentenced to 15 months of prison time already served Wednesday in Worcester federal court. He’s being detained by federal authorities pending deportation to the Dominican Republic.
The father of six pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in May.
The RMV clerk involved in the scam, Vanessa Peguero, is serving two years of probation.
