Cops ID fisherman swept away by rough surf

JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Police Thursday identified the man pulled from the water at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown on Wednesday morning.

Jamestown police said Hok Ly, 57, of Lowell, Massachusetts was fishing on the rocks on the east side of the island when he lost his footing, fell from the rocks, and was swept away by the waves.

The surf was particularly rough Wednesday and the entire coast was under a rip current alert as Tropical Storm Bertha passed by hundreds of miles offshore.

His body was eventually pulled from the water. The medical examiner took Ly’s body from the scene and will determine the exact cause of death.
