HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Disabled children at Jericho Summer Camp in Holyoke had much to celebrate on Thursday.
The children and their parents took part in an awareness walk, where they proudly displayed their new devices which makes it easier to communicate. These devices are Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems, or ACC systems.
John Cavanaugh of Holyoke told 22News, it’s helped his 15 year old daughter Willow make great strides communicating with others. “It’s great to see her enjoying herself using her device and she’s learning to communicate with a basic communication device,” says Cavanaugh.
It’s estimated that these alternative communication devices are helping nearly ten thousand disabled western Massachusetts children.
