Springfield heroin dealer arrested

Will be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Narcotics Detectives of the Springfield police department arrested a local Heroin dealer on Tuesday evening at 4:15 P.M.

46 year-old Carlos Leon of Springfield was arrested selling drugs at Emerson Wight Playground on Marble Street in the city’s South End. Residents were fed up with Leon’s dealings in the park, leading police to set up surveillance cameras in the park. Police saw Leon sitting near the baseball diamond in the park and hiding his drugs near home plate. They also watched him on a small BMX bicycle travelling through the park and selling heroin to customers that would approach him

Officers chased Leon during a foot pursuit into the back blocks of Adams Street. They determined that Leon threw his stash of drugs onto a roof while he was on the fire escape during the pursuit. Detectives Marty Germain, Denny Hackett and Mark Provost chased Leon and recovered 53 bags of heroin and money.

Leon was arrested for possession of heroin with intent to distribute, violation of a drug free park zone, and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned on Wednesday in Springfield District Court.
