CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts children will be going back to school before Labor Day weekend for the towns of Springfield and Ludlow.
Those families have stepped up their back to school shopping the past week.
Springfield students go back to class in less than three weeks on August 25th. Ludlow schools re-open two days later.
Christina Feinberg of Ludlow told 22News, “Makes it very hard with school shopping and the backpacks and clothes and everything trying to vacation as well.”
“I think school should start after Labor Day. I mean it’s always been after Labor Day. There’s no point in starting early, they finish late anyway,” said Brenda Montanez of Springfield.
These parents say the pre-Labor Day start of school in their communities deprive their families of an extra weekend of preschool shopping. Many schools won’t re-open until after Labor Day.
