Springfield Police search for blade in North End stabbing

Police found a knife handle and sheath, but no blade

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An unidentified stabbing victim was undergoing treatment at Baystate Medical Center after he was wounded in a fight, or an attack, on West Street in Springfield’s North End, Tuesday night.

Springfield Police Captain Trent Duda told 22News the man suffered a stab wound to his chest in the 8:25 p.m. incident. Police found the victim across the street from the West Street Pride Station in the apartment complex at 101 Lowell Street.

Detectives had recovered a knife handle and a sheath, but were searching for a blade. They considered the possibility the blade might still be inside the victim’s body, according to Captain Duda.

“We have a victim and no witnesses and no suspects,” said Captain Duda. He added that the victim was expected to survive his wounds.
