WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Police arrested a man over the weekend on charges of enticement of children and impersonation of a public officer.

According to Det. Jamie Chamberland, two girls, ages 15 and 16, told officers a man approached them at 4:16 a.m. Sunday and asked them if they needed a ride. The girls told police after they declined and threatened to call police, the man responded, “I am the police, mommy.”

Chamberland said the girls ran to a nearby house, where a second-floor occupant called police. The teens told police the man had a heavy accent and dark hair with gel in it. They said he was driving a dark-colored Honda.

Chamberland said police were able to make an arrest after Officer Sean A. Rochette recalled pulling over a man matching that description. He said the man was driving a dark Honda while driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

Police arrested Luis LaSanta Vega, 29, at his apartment on Village Road. He was arraigned in district court.
