STORRS, Conn. (AP) — UConn’s football team has begun practicing for its first football game under new head coach Bob Diaco.
Camp opened Saturday morning, with many positions up for grabs, including the starting quarterback job.
Chandler Whitmer, Casey Cochran and Tim Boyle — who all saw playing time a year ago — are competing for that job.
Diaco says he’ll name a starter at the end of camp, but more than one quarterback is likely to play.
The Huskies are hoping the former Notre Dame defensive coordinator can turn around a program that is coming off consecutive 3-9 years and has not had a winning season since 2010.
The Huskies have been picked by the media to finish 9th in the 11-team American Athletic Conference. They open the season on Aug. 29 against BYU.
