Pedestrian killed in Amherst crash

Police closed the North East Street temporarily for the accident

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – An engineering student at the University of Massachusetts died when she was struck by a small SUV in Amherst late Thursday night. Michelle Richotte of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office notified 22News that Hannah B. Frilot, 20, of Amherst died at the site of the crash on North East Street around 11:00 P.M.

According to Richotte, Friliot and a friend had been walking along the side of North East Street, when they were struck by a Toyota RAV4 that was heading in the same direction. The SUV’s driver, a 63 year-old woman, stopped immediately after the crash and called 9-1-1.

Richotte says that the driver cooperated fully with police and emergency workers once they got there, where they found that Friliot had died. Her friend, who was not seriously injured, was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

Amherst and state police are still looking into the cause of the crash.

Friliot was entering her senior year at UMass.
