Expired registration leads to a drug arrest

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – State Police arrested a Holyoke man Friday morning on several charges including having drugs intended for distribution.

According to State Police, around 9:42 a.m. Friday, Trooper David Vincent of the Springfield Barracks saw 35-year-old Julio Izquierdo driving on Interstate 391 in a GMC Yukon that had an expired registration.

When Izquierdo exited I-391 into Holyoke, Trooper Vincent pulled him over on South Canal Street. Police said Trooper Vincent investigated the car and found marijuana packaged for distribution. Izquierdo also illegally had suboxone, a controlled Class B substance.

Julio Izquierdo was charged in Holyoke District Court on the following:

  • Possession of a Class D Substance with the Intent to Distribute (Marijuana)
  • Possession of a Class B Substance (Suboxone)
  • Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
