Rating this summer’s weather so far

We haven't had an official heat wave yet this summer.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) –  Summer is almost half way over and so far people seem pretty happy with our weather.

It was a nice day at Forest Park in Springfield on Thursday. People took advantage of the cooler and more comfortable conditions. It was a welcome change from the warm and humid weather we had last weekend.

But lately it’s been a little bit cooler with high temperatures only in the 70s and low temperatures in the lower 50s.

So far this summer it hasn’t been all that hot. We’ve only made it to 90 degrees four times and we haven’t had an official heat wave yet, with three days in a row of 90 degree temperatures.

“I think it’s been cooler overall. The pool’s not as warm as it usually is but definitely still good weather,” said Jen Mardin of Bristol, Connecticut.

“No because last year we had so many days of humidity together and this year we kind of getting a break in between so,” said Nancy Hadden of Bristol, Connecticut.

Lately temperatures have been closer to what we expect this time of year with highs in the lower 80s and low temperatures in the lower 60s.

One thing we have had to deal with quite a bit so far this summer is severe weather and some very heavy rain.

“Yeah, I would say so it gives you a little heightened sense of fear when you see the storms coming because of the tornadoes back a couple of years ago but it just kind of keeps you on your toes and watch the weather on TV more often,” said Amanda Tetrault of Springfield.

Over 7 inches of rain was reported at Westover in Chicopee for July which is well above the normal of 3.8 inches.
