SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – As we get closer to the middle of summer, there is more and more locally-grown produce available. But what effect have recent storms had on this year’s offerings? The good news, is that so far, the weather isn’t having that great of an impact.
At the Indoor Farmers Market at Tower Square in Springfield, there is plenty of fresh produce available. Despite some heavy rain this month, farmers seem to be doing pretty well overall.
“The weather has not been too bad. We have had a couple of days of pretty heavy rains recently and we’re expecting more, so that has us scrambling a little bit to get everything picked, but overall I’d say it’s been a pretty good season,” John Hawkins of Enterprise Farm in Whately said.
Hawkins says that they have lots of vegetables like carrots, beets, lettuce and cucumbers available right now.
And there is more than just produce at the Indoor Farmer’s Market. You can find honey and beeswax as well as cupcakes there, too. The Indoor Farmers Market takes place every Thursday from Noon to 5:00 P.M. at Tower Square.
