21-year-old stabbed during attempted carjacking

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)-   Springfield police are searching for a suspect who attempted to steal a car from a man early Thursday morning.

Lt. Henry Gagnon of the Springfield Police Department said officers were called to the area of 192 Westford Avenue in the Upper Hill neighborhood around 1:00 A.M. There, officers spoke with a 21-year-old man, who said he had been parked outside waiting to pick up a friend when a man asked for a ride. The victim refused and the suspect punched him through his opened driver side window several times, Lt. Gagnon said.

When the victim got out of the car, a struggle ensued, and the suspect stabbed the victim in his left side. The suspect then attempted to enter the car and drive off, but the victim pulled him out.  The suspect then ran away.

The victims injuries were not serious, and he told officers he would seek out his own medical attention, Lt. Gagnon said.
