CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people were rushed to hospital after a two-car crash in Chicopee, Wednesday night, near the Exit 3 off-ramp from Interstate 391.

A car traveling south on Route 116 hit the driver’s side of a car coming out of the Exit 3 off-ramp just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police said the accident involved a Honda and a Cadillac.

Chicopee fire fighters had to use special hydraulic equipment to free one of the victims from their car. Both cars sustained heavy damage.

Chicopee Police Lt. Don Strange told 22News two women and one man, all in their 20’s, and all from Chicopee and Holyoke were taken to Baystate and Holyoke medical centers. No word on the conditions of the victims. Lt. Strange said no one’s been charged.

Traffic was slowed down on the highway due to accident and subsequent investigation and cleanup. The exit to turn towards Granby Road was blocked off while police conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage.

When 22News crews arrived, the Cadillac was on top of the guardrail.
