SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Commuters on Interstate 291 had to deal with heavy delays Wednesday morning, due to a three car crash. State Police Sgt. Alan Joubert told 22News that the accident was reported around 7:50 A.M., on 291 westbound just before Exit 4 (St. James Avenue). Traffic was backed up from far as Burnett Road and the Massachusetts Turnpike entrance, but the crash was cleared around 9:00 A.M.

There were only minor injuries in the crash, Joubert said, but the guardrails in the area received heavy damage, so a MassDOT crew was called in to evaluate.

One of the two lanes of I-291 west was closed as the cars were cleared away and MassDOT worked.
