Over 7,000 were left in the dark due to severe storms

Most of the outages are in Hampden County

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Another day of severe weather caused multiple power outages throughout western Massachusetts Monday evening.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Tornado Warning were issued Monday as the storms passed through. The storms brought heavy rain, strong winds and lightning.

Both WMECo and National Grid customers were dealing with power outages. As of 11:30 p.m., 216 people were in the dark; 51 WMECo customers and 165 National Grid customers.

Early Monday evening about 7,900 customers were wityhout power because of the storm. Most of the power outages were in Hampden County with 3,993; however, 2,271 National Grid customers in Lenox were in the dark.
