Open Pantry in urgent need of donations

Need increases in the summer months

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Open Pantry is putting out an urgent call for donations, as need for their services increases in the summer months. According to Candace Larger of Open Pantry Community Services, their budget is limited, and there are more people in need of their emergency food pantry.

Larger says that more people depend on the Open Pantry at this time of year, because children are out of school.

“In order to meet the needs of the people we serve, we are being forced to purchase food with our limited resource.” Open Pantry Director Allison Maynard said.

Some of the most urgently needed food items are: protein items, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta sauce, peanut butter, soups, bread, canned meats, tuna, and pasta.

If you would like to make a donation, you can visit the Emergency Food Pantry at 2460 Main St. in Springfield Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. For more information, visit or call (413) 737-5353.
