BOSTON (AP) — Whale watchers on a cruise are taking a long way back to Boston.

A passenger on the Boston Harbor Cruises boat, Ken Maguire, says Monday night they expected to be back by around 4:30 p.m. but about 10 minutes into the return trip their boat stopped after apparently hitting something.

Coast Guard Petty Officer MeyonHi Clegg said the boat’s propeller became entangled in a lobster trap rope about 15 miles offshore.

She said at about 9 p.m. the cruise company wasn’t able to remove it and passengers will be brought back on another of the company’s boats. She said a Coast Guard cutter has been standing by. No injuries have been reported. Clegg said weather hasn’t been an issue.

Maguire said passengers were told they’ll get refunds, and other assistance.  A telephone message was left for the company.
