Otis house fire possibly caused by lightning strike

It is possible that the fire was caused by a lightning strike.

OTIS, Mass. (WWLP) – A fire broke out in an Otis home during the powerful thunderstorm that passed through Western Massachusetts.

22News’ cameras were kept far away from the burning home because of downed power lines and trees on Route 23. The fire was at 61 Bliven Road.

Otis Fire Chief Sandy Pinkham told 22News two people have been displaced. The husband and wife were not home when the fire started. The damage was confined to the basement, but they won’t be able to move back in until repairs have been made.

Chief Pinkham says the fire may have been caused by lightning, but the Fire Marshal will make that determination.
