Mid-morning downpours push through WMass.

Unlike our recent trend of PM storms, western Massachusetts had some thunder and lightning in the morning hours.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A round of downpours and occasional thunderstorms moved through western Massachusetts Sunday morning.

While thunderstorms this time of year typically arrive in the afternoon and evening, western Massachusetts had rare morning thunderstorms and downpours to deal with on Sunday.

Early morning rainfall came heavily, but rather quickly, producing less than a quarter of an inch of rain in the areas that saw the scattered downpours move through.

Late morning thunderstorms brought more significant rain and lightning, especially to southern Berkshire County where radar estimates up to an inch of rain fell within some of the storms.

Stay with 22News as there is the potential for more thunderstorms this afternoon if sunshine develops.
