SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – In a crowded field of Democratic candidates Martha Coakley is trying to widen her footprint here in western Massachusetts.
On Sunday, Coakley and her supporters gathered on State Street in Springfield to officially open her Springfield campaign office.
The office will serve as a coordinating base for many of Coakley’s western Massachusetts supports who plan on making phone calls, and knocking on doors to solicit support for their candidate.
Coakley is the current state Attorney General she was born in Pittsfield and grew up in the Berkshire County town of North Adams.
She told 22News why she thinks voters will ultimately choose her, “I believe when they look at my record and my ability to say we’re going to be prosperous and fair here in Massachusetts. Just as we went after Wall Street. We challenged the defense of marriage act. We are going to stand up for people and we will have a great future here in Springfield.”
Coakley’s Democratic competition includes state treasurer Steve Grossman and Don Berwick.
Voters will head to the polls of September 9th to choose their candidate.
