BRAINTREE, Mass. (AP) — The Roman Catholic Boston Archdiocese has a new schools superintendent.

Cardinal Sean O’Malley has appointed Kathleen Power Mears to oversee the 119 Catholic schools in the archdiocese.

Mears is currently the executive director for Elementary Schools with the National Catholic Educational Association and has previously served as the assistant superintendent of schools in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

Her appointment is effective Sept. 15.

She calls it a “wonderful opportunity to serve the church.”

O’Malley says education is a priority for the mission of the church.

More than 40,000 students attend archdiocese schools.
